The Grief Opera, Love Goes On is an original work of loss and love in song.
Losing his son, Nigel Linacre wrote poetry then combined with musician Vladimir Miller, to bring grief to life. From Nigel’s last conversations with his son, George, via shock and pain, and a return to love. Along this grief journey, we see the father broken, and yet ultimately remade.
Reflecting varied mental states, the music is infused with a range of musical styles. Vladimir Miller is a gifted jazz composer. The music reflects the libretto, and is also a counterpoint, lightening the darkness.
The music is informed by the late George Linacre, a composer of bass rhythms and more, with the Eschar band. George’s riffs provide the beat for key songs.
Vladimir and Nigel are joined on stage by soprano Rebecca Snell and tenor Gavin Macrae. David Shepard on clarinet, Meg Moss on violin, Nigel Shires on double bass, and Susan Norton on cello. Tom Linacre adds his voice.
