Walk – How much of Chippenham did John Provis build?

The guy that built the house that is now the Brunel Pub, by the arches, was John Provis. He, and his identically named dad, built a lot more of Chippenham than that – the Bear Hotel for example, and loads more. And Lucy’s been digging further into the family – so there’s some surprises to come.

This walk and talk will take in factors which shaped the town in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, through the eyes and work of this prominent family, who also had a celebrated artist in their ranks.
