Good Energy will be a headline co-sponsor of this year’s Chippenham Half Marathon, which is planned to be the most eco-friendly so far.
The renewable energy company, which is based in the town, is also sponsoring the trophies and prizes. It entered a corporate team in 2022 which took the top prize in the category.
The half marathon is due to take place on Sunday 17th September and is licensed for up to 2,000 runners. The route goes through the town centre and along scenic country lanes and local villages and hamlets including Stanley, the Tythertons, West End, Kellaways and Langley Burrell.
This year’s official charity is The RISE Trust which supports families across North Wiltshire.
Good Energy chief executive Nigel Pocklington said: “We are proud to be associated with Chippenham Half Marathon, not only because it’s one of the town’s biggest events but also because the organisers take their green responsibilities so seriously.
“From eco-friendly compostable water cups and the collection of old running shoes for recycling, to the opportunity to plant trees if runners don’t want to receive any more race T-shirts, they’re clearly committed to a more sustainable future.
“We’re already recruiting our own team to take part in the event and hopes other local businesses will get involved too – it’s a great way to keep fit while also fundraising for local charities.”
Chippenham Half Marathon is organised by Chippenham Harriers.
Race director Matthew Hurcum said: “We try to be as eco-friendly as possible so it’s great to be supported by Good Energy and we look forward to welcoming their team.
“The route is mainly flat and passes through some beautiful local countryside, which is why we’ve previously been voted as one of the best UK races.
“There’s still plenty of time for people to start preparing. We offer training programmes for beginners and more advanced runners, and people can add to the fun on the day itself by wearing fancy dress if they wish!”
The Chippenham Half Marathon begins on Bristol Road near Chippenham Sports Club at 9.30am and ends at the same location.
