Working closely in partnership with care homes across Wiltshire and Swindon, Care Home Volunteers (CHV) recruits, trains and supports volunteers who spend quality time with older residents in care homes. They are looking out for more volunteers to join their Chippenham team and they have just launched a new Just Giving appeal.
They say “Our lovely team of volunteers offer friendly conversation and companionship to care home residents, especially those who have no visitors, sharing interests, helping them to keep in touch with the outside world and giving them an opportunity to reminisce about the good old days. You can find more about the work of CHV, including a short film about the difference our volunteers make, on our website www.carehomevolunteers.org.uk
Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and resulting lockdown of care homes, our face-to-face befriending visits have been put on hold. Our lovely volunteers are writing letters and greetings cards to the residents they would normally visit, but lonely and isolated residents are greatly missing seeing a familiar face and having a conversation with someone they know.
We have all realised how important technology is in enabling us to keep in touch with friends and family and this is particularly relevant now to care home residents. With this in mind Care Home Volunteers have also launched a new appeal…
Virtual Visits for Care Homes
Some isolated older people living in care homes are missing seeing familiar visitors’ faces. We would like to supply our partner care homes with the technology to enable their residents to video-call their loved ones and our volunteer befrienders.”
