History Portal Club: Educating Chippenham (walk)

As a group we’ll take in where Chippenham’s children learned from times gone by, on a gentle walk and talk that explores how the schools were organised and what was actually taught.
Who was Robin Tanner & why was he important?
What happened when WW2 evacuees came?
Where was the genteel ladies’ school?
Why did the grammar move?
This friendly session will untangle how the town’s education and learning changed as needs & fashions grew.
(If inclement weather, session will take place indoors).
Distance approx. 2.4km or 1.5m, at the pace of the slowest. Booking essential.
