Mortimores Wood Volunteers
An event every month that begins at 10:00 am on day First of the month, repeating until 5 December 2027
Come and help maintain this small ancient woodland on the banks of the Avon on the southern edge of Chippenham.
In the spring there is a lovely show of bluebells under the trees. Mortimores Wood is both a designated County Wildlife Site and Local Nature Reserve and the wildlife and flowers benefit from retaining the ancient craft of coppice rotation of the hazel trees.
We are a very small group of volunteers who meet on the second Sunday of each month. During the winter half of the year we coppice a section of trees and carry out hedge maintenance, and in the summer half we clear vegetation from the path edges and maintain the steps.
Tools are provided and no experience is necessary, just enthusiasm for helping wildlife – we will show you what we do. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate those under 18.
