Teens & tweens rapper sword dancing workshop

May 23 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
£3 – £25

If you’re aged 11-17, and ever fancied learning to dance while tied up in bendy metal swords… or even if you’ve never even thought about it but like the idea of adding a bit of thrill to your dancing… then this fabulous high-energy workshop is for you.

Rapper is a fast-paced, traditional English sword dance originating from 19th-century coal mining communities in Northumberland and Durham, and uses flexible double-handled swords to create tight formations.
There’s a look at it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx6MzgX-nL4

It’ll be taught by NYFTE (National Youth Folk Troupe of England), who are all aged between 10 and 18, and are experts in rapper dance teaching, and will introduce the dance form to participants right from the beginning.

No experience necessary. Just wear a pair of hard-soled shoes.

Just £3 on the door, or £25 for a full weekend folk festival youth ticket (which includes all ceilidhs, dances, workshops, concerts and events) if you’re aged 11-17.
