What was life like at the Sanitary Laundry?

A meeting of History Portal Club, with Lucy Whitfield, Historian.
We’ll take a deep dive into the life of the Sanitary Laundry, which was just by Ivy Lane School (the chimney’s still there, albeit a bit shorter than it was). This workplace employed generations of townsfolk, but piecing its history together is a job and a half, so if you (or one of your folks) worked there at any time, please pass on some memories.
This interactive club session will explore the life and times of a bygone workplace that played a significant part in the culture of the town, with practices and technologies that are long gone but still fondly remembered.
History Portal Club is a friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past, hidden landmarks, and great company. It’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures, no stuffy rooms, just walking, talking, pub chats, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks.
