Acorn Property Group, the owner of Emery Gate Shopping Centre has announced that a lease has been signed with Padel Chippenham, which will open this September inside the former Tesco unit, bringing the UK’s fastest-growing sport to the heart of Chippenham town centre.
The new venue will transform the former supermarket space into a modern indoor leisure destination, featuring four top-tier padel courts, a MultiBall interactive entertainment wall with more than 45 games, changing facilities, refreshments, and equipment hire and purchase.
The opening forms part of Emery Gate’s continued commitment to keeping the shopping centre active and welcoming while longer-term redevelopment plans progress.
While planning permission has been agreed for the redevelopment of the shopping centre, with any project of this nature there are a number of stages that must be worked through before construction can commence.
In the meantime, the focus remains on ensuring Emery Gate continues to play a positive role in the town centre by attracting visitors, supporting footfall and offering new reasons for people to spend time in Chippenham.
Padel, a fast-paced racket sport combining elements of tennis and squash, has seen significant growth across the UK in recent years, with participation more than doubling and now approaching one million players nationwide. The arrival of Padel Chippenham will give local residents, workers and visitors the chance to try the sport in a convenient town-centre location.
Caroline Wall, Project Manager at Acorn Property Group, owner of Emery Gate Shopping Centre, said:
“We’re really excited to welcome Padel Chippenham to Emery Gate. This is a fantastic example of how town-centre spaces can be used creatively to bring new experiences, energy and footfall into the heart of the community.
“While the wider redevelopment of Emery Gate continues to move through the necessary stages, our priority is to ensure the centre remains active, vibrant and relevant for Chippenham. Padel is one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, and this new facility will give people another great reason to visit the town centre.”
“With four fantastic courts, interactive games, refreshments, changing facilities and equipment available on site, we’re creating a welcoming destination for sport, entertainment and social activity.”
