Comedy fans are in for a treat this month as the Chippenham Comedy Festival returns to The Old Road Tavern Barn from 26th-28th June 2026. Audiences will have the chance to see 16 comedians bringing their shows to Chippenham before they heading to the Edinburgh Fringe later in the summer.
This year’s line-up features a mix of established names, award winners and rising stars, offering everything from stand-up and storytelling to musical comedy, satire and character comedy. The festival opens on Friday evening with performances from Adele Cliff, Caitriona Dowden and Stephen Carlin.
Saturday’s programme features Nate Kitch, Phil Nichol, Alex Kitson, Eddie French, Vix Leyton, Katie Mitchell and local comedian Wil Hodgson. As well as performing at the festival, Wil is the driving force behind Chippenham Comedy, bringing regular comedy nights and touring acts to audiences in the town.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with David Hoare, Sally-Anne Hayward, Sooz Kempner, Rachel Creeger, Bella Humphries and Mitch Benn.
As a Fringe preview festival, many of the shows will be works in progress, giving audiences an early look at material that comedians will be performing in Edinburgh later in the summer.
While the comedians may be the stars of the show, the festival is very much a community effort. Support comes from behind the scenes from Wil’s wife Sarah, Lindsey and the team at The Old Road Tavern and Tom Mallard from Riverbank Studios, who handles sound and technical production.
The Old Road Tavern has established itself as one of Chippenham’s go-to venues for live entertainment. As well as hosting the comedy festival and regular Chippenham Comedy Club nights, the venue also features regular live music gigs and Impro Slam events, helping to make the barn of the town’s busiest small performance space.
