Chippenham Museum is still closed but the team of staff and volunteers have continued to work on a variety of new online projects over the past few months to continue their fantastic work for the local community. New projects include the following: –
An Online Shop
Browse Chippenham Museum’s range of local makers, books and gifts on their new online shop, now with free doorstep delivery to Chippenham or £3.50 postage.
Perfect for special gifts, the Museum shop sells many items produced in and around Chippenham or inspired by the local area. The Museum prides itself in supporting local artists and makers through its selection of carefully selected prints, cards, jewellery and decorative items. They also stock a range of popular local books.
Online Learning Resources
Whilst schools and families are unable to visit in person, Chippenham Museum are supporting those learning at home by sharing a growing range of downloadable learning resources on their website.
Learn about the 878AD Viking attack on King Alfred the Great’s Royal Saxon settlement in Chippenham and the part Chippenham played in the life of celebrated Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Information Sheets introduce each topic and its connection to the local area, starting with the Anglo-Saxons, Brunel and WW2. Worksheets and 5 Minute Makes then provide creative writing, research, design and problem solving activities to develop an understanding of various times in Chippenham’s history.
Objects in Focus on Website
Launched as part of Local History Month, the Museum’s new Objects in Focus feature takes a closer look at some of the objects in the museum’s collection. Themes including entertainment, food & drink and Westinghouse can be viewed on the Collections page of Chippenham Museum’s website.
Finally, Chippenham Museum are asking the public to keep Coronovirus items such as photos, rainbow pictures, objects and videos of life in lockdown to build a future collection of Chippenham’s experiences of Covid-19. Please get in touch with them if you have anything to share for their archive.
