Our wonderful friends at Chippenham Film Club are putting on not one but TWO gorgeous films about LGBTQIA+ stories for Pride month and PrideFest.
Park Chan-wook’s 2016 psychological thriller The Handmaiden is a highly acclaimed sapphic masterpiece. Based on Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith, it follows an orphaned pickpocket hired to help a con man seduce a wealthy Japanese heiress, only for the two women to fall deeply in love and subvert the men’s plans.
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar follows three Manhattan drag queens – Vida (Patrick Swayze), Noxeema (Wesley Snipes), and Chi-Chi (John Leguizamo)—who win a trip to the Miss Drag Queen of America pageant in Hollywood. They trade their plane tickets for a vintage Cadillac and embark on a road trip, but break down in a conservative Midwestern town, where they secretly help the locals overcome their prejudices.
